About Department

     Chemistry is the branch of science which includes the study of a range of matters such as Atoms, Crystals, Molecules and other collection of matter whether they are in isolation or incombination. It also involves the concept of energy and entropy that are related to the nspontaneity of various chemical processes. Chemistry is commonly known as the science of matter.

     The past decades are considered as the witness for the global perspective of chemistry in all branches of science and even in daily life. This era is directly related to the well being of mankind encompassing various modern areas of chemical sciences.

     To cater to the need and to groom the interest of students towards science department of chemistry is providing quality education since its birth in R.C.M Science College in 1974. It is committed for the Al-round development of the students to fit well in the civilized society and in scientific environment of research and innovation.

     The faculty of chemistry encompasses a dynamic team consisting of highly qualified and well experienced teaching and non-teaching staff members. The honours department of chemistry was affiliated to Berhampur University in the year 1981 and since it provides chemistry education for under graduate students of physical and life science honours students for more than 40 years. It is a matter of privilege that M.Sc. Chemistry is being opened in the year 2019-20 in the college comprising of 16 seats under the affiliation of Berhampur University. Two batches of students already completed their Post Graduation in Chemistry with good percentage of marks and the result is 100%.

     Both the graduation and Post Graduation departments are well equipped with laboratories and recently upgraded with modern equipments to meet the need of Post Graduate students to carry out research independently. The department is well furnished with smart class room both for U.G and P.G students. There is a seminar library in the department to provide books, journals and references to the students. On regular basis department seminars are being carried out by the students along with resource persons of various academic institutions recently the department has conducted a national seminar on application of advance material in different emerging field.

     The Chemistry department always tries to build a cordial relationship and provides all kinds of supports to the students for their academic progress. The track record of performances of the students has been consistently excellent. The department lays foundation for extremely productive and exciting career in variety of disciplines like pharmaceuticals, agro chemicals, mineralogy, molecular biology, biotechnology, polymer technology, teaching research scientific publication and so on. The importance of chemistry would not diminish over time so it is a promising career path. In broad sense the study of chemistry provides a vehicle for obtaining an education for life.
